Albius Animal Health

Our R&D Strategy for Coronavirus

Coronavirus first appeared about 10,000 years before 2019.

It can cause infections in a variety of animals, including:

Humans | Cats | Dogs | Pigs | Horses

Cows | Chickens | Camels | Whales

All these coronaviruses share the same or similar characteristics and lineage as the prevalent COVID-19.

So by logical deduction and in theory, the antiviral drugs effective against COVID-19 would also be applicable to all other coronaviruses.

Albius’ anti-CoV compounds have been designed to target and protect the host protein*.

Accordingly, when the virus undergoes minor mutations, Albius’ anti-CoV compounds remain effective. Therefore, Albius’ solutions will work on most kinds of coronaviruses.

(*Conversely, antibodies and vaccines, which rely on precise recognition of specific protein structures, become ineffective as the proteins in each virus undergo minor mutations.)

With this R&D strategy in mind, our scientists have been optimising a lead anti-CoV candidate to treat cats suffering from Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).
